How to get a Good Hairstyle/Haircut
By adminWe’ve all been there. Tears streaming down your face after you realize that your new haircut makes you look downright.. ugly. The “stylist” kept on cutting and cutting before you could say a word of protest. You had hoped that all of a sudden your hair would turn out amazing at the end. You even swore to yourself before (because we all know that bad haircut experiences happen more than just once) that you would stand up for yourself, but in the end you payed your cash and screamed obscenities in your car.
Fear no more. With some simple steps, you will get the hairstyle/haircut that you wanted and will be happy with.
Be concise. Know exactly what you want. If you’re walking in without a clue of what type of haircut you want, you’re probably going to leave thinking no one is ever going to find you attractive ever again. If you want a simple trim, you can’t say “I want a trim” and say nothing else. Give the hairstylist a specific length, types of layering you want, clean up spots, places to leave longer or shorter, and also specify exactly what you don’t want. If anything, bring in pictures. If you loved a haircut, take a picture! Take pictures in everything angle you could think was possible. If you want a new hairstyle, bring in multiple shots of different people with that new style. Bringing in one mugshot of a photo is not the most helpful thing for the person who is cutting your hair.
Find a hairstylist you can trust with your life. I mean hair. Think of this as finding a new spouse. This is not a one-nighter. Once you find the hairstylist you want, you will have a long lasting relationship with that person. The key here is taking your time. Go to multiple salons. First impressions are everything. Is the place clean? Does it look stylish? Be strict about your standards. Judge a hairstylist on his/her own hair. Does the hairstylist have a conservative look? Is he/she scary looking with that bright pink hair?
Bring in your photos. Talk to many different stylists and ask them their opinions on your new style. Sometimes asking them what they think will look best on you will give you a general gauge of what type of cut they’ll give you. This goes into the next step.
Talk to the hairstylist. This is the most important step. Most people just jump in and say “Do whatever you think is best.” This is your money we’re talking about. Ask the stylist about the new hairstyle you want. Of course, now that you are now armed with your pictures, ask the stylist what they think about your new style. Talking with the stylist will also give you a sense of what kind of relationship you guys are gonna have. Are you guys compatible? Is the stylist cocky? Is the stylist patient with you? Simply saying “Oh he/she seems nice” is not gonna cut it.
Be strong. Most people are afraid to stand up to their hairstylists. I’m not saying to be mean and overbearing, but it doesn’t hurt to be picky. Hopefully by the time you find yourself in a salon chair, you had found a respectable hairstylist. If they start doing something you don’t like, ask them. Tell them that they are doing something you don’t like. If they start giving excuses like “oh I thought I might try something different” tell them to stop. You talked to them about the style and should have agreed upon a plan. If they start straying from it, walk away. Don’t just smile and nod your head.
